The activity took place in the town of Duma, southeast of Nablus, and the cleaning campaign initiated from the point at which the boys scout work had stopped. As an initiation to the campaign, the supervisors distributed gloves to the girls in order not to hurt their hands while cleaning, in addition to the hats and t-shirts of Palestine Heritage Trail and The Wild Life Society, and a bottle of water to each girl.
With instructions from the teachers and supervisors, the girls started with a salutation and some scouting rituals, and the cleaning work followed. We walked all the way through Waad Naser, the surrounding of Duma, Juhaina Plain, Khirbet Al-rayya which is a Canaanite place, with the help of the local guide, Habib, who is a citizen of the area, and finally we reached Ain Duma where we rested for some time. It was a very beautiful place to stop at, and Abd Al Halim, a Geography and History teacher in one of the participating girl’s schools, explained to the participants about the nature of this area historically and geographically.
Ibrahim Odeh, the activity coordinator from The Wild Life Society, and Majd Qumsieh, the communication officer from Palestine Heritage Trail also explained to the participants about Palestine Heritage Trail in terms of the environmental, historical, and community-based background. The girls interacted effectively and were impressed by the work to the extent that they started waiting the next activity that will be held in another segment of the Palestine Heritage Trail soon.
At lunch, we ate local food ( Maqlooba) made at Habib’s house , in a tent near the place where we have rested. Finally, the girls with their supervisors returned back home as the transportation where arranged to bring them to and from the area.
